Wealth & legacy

Growing what you have built is one job.Passing it on the way you intended is a different one, and it is the one more often left unfinished.

Protection & Planning

Legacy conversations are rarely about money for long.

They tend to arrive at something more particular.

Some of this is financial planning and some of it is administration. Both matter, and the administrative half is usually the neglected one.

Where a will, a trust or a business agreement is needed, that is legal work. We will say so plainly and coordinate rather than improvise.

What people are actually asking

01Whether what I leave would reach the people I intend, and how quickly
A mother and her adult son talking over a meal with an advisor
02How to be fair between children in different circumstances
A mother and son discussing their furniture workshop with an advisor
03What happens to a business, or a property held with others
An adult wheelchair user planning long-term support with her parent and an advisor
04How to provide for a dependant who will always need support

05Whether my family would know what to do, and where to find things

What it actually means

What this covers

Some of this is financial planning and some of it is administration. Both matter, and the administrative half is usually the neglected one.

01

Growing assets

How assets are grown and held long term, and how much risk is worth taking at your stage. Where most people start and, for many, where it should stay.

02

Estate distribution

Who receives what, and through which instrument. In Malaysia this interacts with the law that applies to you, so it is worth specific advice rather than assuming.

03

Cash when needed

Estates are often asset-rich and cash-poor exactly when a family needs cash. Life cover is often used to solve that specific problem rather than to build wealth.

04

Nominations and papers

Nominations kept current, documents findable, and someone who knows where they are. Costs nothing and resolves more difficulty than anything else on this page.

How the conversation goes

How we work it through

Estate matters touch law and tax as well as financial planning. We are clear about where our advice ends.

01

We map what exists

Assets, policies, nominations, and any arrangements already made. Frequently this surfaces a nomination that has not been updated in a decade.

02

We identify what would actually happen

Given the documents as they stand today, not as you intended them. The distance between the two is the whole conversation.

03

We work with your other advisers

Where a will, a trust or a business agreement is needed, that is a lawyer’s work. We will say so plainly and coordinate rather than improvise.

04

We keep it current

Nominations and intentions drift out of date quietly. A periodic review is most of what keeps this in order.

Common questions

No. Wills, trusts and estate administration are legal work, and we will point you to a qualified professional. What we do is make sure the financial arrangements and the nominations line up with what that document says.

No. A nomination that has not been updated causes the same difficulty for a modest estate as a large one, arguably more, because there is less margin for delay.

With your existing nominations. It takes very little time to check them, and for a good number of people that check is the whole job.

Next step

Start with what is already written down

Your existing nominations and policies. For many people, reviewing those is most of what this needs.

Most conversations with us don’t end in a decision, and that’s completely fine.
